Time for another dram!
A triple-distilled Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon, Oloroso and PX casks.
A bit about
After my little visit to the Auchentoshan Distillery last year, I couldn't help but get a few samples to try at home, along with a bottle of the Sauvignon Cask Finish and the Auchentoshan 12.
Auchentoshan (pronounced 'Ock-un-tosh-un') is a Glasgow Distillery that has been in business since 1823, producing Lowland triple-distilled whisky.
The Auchentoshan Three Wood was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon American Oak Casks, ex-Oloroso Sherry Casks and ex-Pedro Ximénez Casks. It's triple distilled and has 43% ABV.
When it comes to awards, so far, it has won Gold in 2023 at the International Spirits Challenge and Gold in 2023 at the International Wine & Spirits Competition.

Time to try it!
Nose: Sugary-sweet with blackberries, blackcurrants, raisins and orange zest
Palate: Harsher than expected with the first sip, slightly oaky and nutty (almonds and hazelnuts), with some dark forest fruit
Finish: Long, with a pleasant fruitiness and some oak

Pros and Cons
So far, from what I've tried from Auchentoshan, the Three Wood seems to be the most 'full-bodied'. The sweet and fruity layers are nicely balanced with the oak and nutty elements, making it a very pleasant dram to try.
I've only tried this one neat, but next time I have a sample or bottle around the house I will try an old-fashioned with it as I think it will work wonders.
It is priced on most UK websites at around £50.
