Time for another dram!

A Single Malt Irish Whiskey matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in PX casks.

A bit about

Temris (name coming from an old Irish word meaning sanctuary or sacred space) is a relatively new company on the whiskey market. I unfortunately do not have too much information about them. All I know is that their whisky is distilled, matured and bottled in Ireland and that so far, they have this 5-Year-Old PX Cask Finish and a 21-Year-Old Single Malt. Their products are also used in Black Twist Irish Coffee Liqueur.

Matured in Ex-bourbon oak casks, then transferred to former Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, this one is non-chill filtered, has a vibrant red amber natural colour, and 46% ABV.

Time to try it!

Nose: Sultanas with ripe plums, salted caramel and spices (ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg)

Palate: Sweet, with sultanas, ripe stone fruit, a bit of cinnamon, walnuts and a hint of oak

Finish: Medium, the oak is more pronounced, with more of the spices noticed on the nose coming out, ripe plums, and poached apples

Pros and cons

It's delicious for sipping neat, great over ice or a few drops of icy cold water, and, for me at least, perfect as an after-dinner treat as well as for the colder months of the year.

I've tried a Hot Toddy with this one, and it makes it oh so tempting to make at least a few more. I've used it in a Peach Whisky Smash and a Cherry Whisky Sour, and it was absolutely delicious in both.

In Conclusion

The Temris 5 PX Cask Finish is quite rich, with layers of ripe plum notes, dried fruit sweetness, spice and oak.

Priced at around £55, I think it's a delightful dram to enjoy, whether you have it neat or in a cocktail.
