Time for another dram!
A smooth, double-aged, blended Scotch Whisky.
A bit about
John Dewar & Sons has been around since 1846 and was initially a wine and spirit shop in the middle of Scotland, in Perth.
As a brand, Dewar's is 'The World's Most Awarded Blended Scotch Whisky', with more than 1000 awards so far.
The 12 Year Old Double Aged has won Double Gold at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
What does double aged mean?
Malt whiskies and fine grain whiskies are aged for at least 12 years in oak casks after which they are blended and then aged again in oak casks.
Time to try it
Dewar's 12 Double Aged
Although it only has 40% ABV, I found the first sip to be quite harsh on the nose and palate, but it became smoother with the following sips.
It has some toffee and fresh fruit on the nose
Taste-wise, it's highly citrusy with a hint of vanilla
The medium finish is verging on the sweet side with the smallest hint of spice.
Pros and Cons
It's great in a Highball, on the rocks or in whisky sour and I found it to be good for sipping as well, but mostly with a drop of water added or an ice cube.
Adding the water seems to open it up a lot, making the finish even smoother and bringing out more of the toffee and even some honey notes.

In Conclusion
Priced at around £30 on most UK websites, I think it's a nice blended scotch to have around the house, especially if you're a fan of whisky highballs.
If you want to try it, you can usually find it here.
As always, please drink responsibly.
