Auchentoshan 18 - Whisky Review

Time for another dram!
A triple-distilled Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky aged for 18 years in ex-bourbon casks.

A bit about
Auchentoshan (pronounced 'Ock-un-tosh-un') is a Glasgow Distillery that has been in business since 1823, producing Lowland triple-distilled whisky.
The Auchentoshan 18 is part of their core range along with the Three Wood, American Oak and Sherry Cask. It has 43% ABV, and it was matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks.
When it comes to awards, it has won Gold in 2021 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Silver in 2021 at the International Spirits Challenge and Silver in 2017 at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Time to try it!
Nose: Quite nutty, with some tobacco, oak and caramel
Palate: Zesty and floral with some fresh cut grass and some oak spice
Finish: Long, with more lime and lemon zest and floral notes lingering along with a hint of tobacco

Pros and Cons
Personally, I would have preferred a touch of sweetness somewhere in between the layers of fresh cut grass and oak, but don't get me wrong, it's still a nice whisky to sip.
Leaving it to breathe for a bit after pouring a dram seems to help somewhat with releasing more of the delicate floral notes.
Quite a few people I've spoken to have admitted preferring the Three Wood to this one, but, as with all whisky, you should try it for yourself if you want to be 100% sure.
Priced around £90 on most UK websites, The Auchentoshan 18 is a nice sipping dram. You can find the 18 and some of the core range by clicking/tapping here or here.

As always, please drink responsibly.
