A bit about

Meaning the 'elixir of life' or 'nectar of immortality', Amrut is an Indian Single Malt Whisky made with Indian barley and water from the Himalayas and aged in oak barrels. It has 46% ABV, is non-chill-filtered, and has a natural, vibrant colour.

Amrut Distilleries have been around since 1948, with Amrut Single Malt being launched in 2004.

Time to try it

Nose: Sweet with tropical fruit (banana, mango, pineapple, coconut) and barley

Palate: Lovely lingering sweetness with delicate tropical fruit notes mixed with raw almonds and grain/barley

Finish: Medium, dry, with apricots and more barley

Pros and Cons

Amrut Single Malt is a no-age-statement whisky, and, in all honesty, it does have quite a few of the characteristics of a young whisky, but don't get me wrong, it's a great dram to enjoy.

I'm not the biggest fan of the dry-ish finish, but it is pretty decently balanced with the sweetness and fruitiness.

I like it neat, with a few drops of water and even over ice.

It makes some pretty decent cocktails as well - especially a very fruity Peach Whisky Smash.

In Conclusion

Overall, I'm always happy to try world whiskies and glad I've tried this one.

After trying Indri Single Malt, I was very curious about this one, as Amrut was actually the first Whisky made in India.

Priced at around £50 on most UK websites, I think it's a decent dram to enjoy, especially during the warmer months.
