A Single Malt Indian Whisky matured in ex-Bourbon, ex-French wine and ex-PX Sherry Casks.
A bit about
Picadilly Distillery, which produces Indri Trini, is located at the foothills of the Himalayas, in the small village of Indri, in India.
They use Indian six-row barley to produce their whisky which, after being matured in three different barrels - first-fill Bourbon Casks, ex-French wine and ex-PX Sherry Casks, gets blended to form Indri Trini.
It has won quite a number of awards such as Best Indian Single Malt at the 2022 World Whisky Awards, Gold at the 2022 International Spirits Challenge and Gold at the Global World Whisky Masters.
Indri Trini is a non-chill-filtered, no-age-statement whisky with a beautiful natural colour and 46% ABV.
Time to try it
Nose: Sweet, and pleasant, with raisins, vanilla, treacle tart, sweet pineapple and a bit of mint
Taste: Less sweet compared to the smell, lightly oaky with toffee, warm on the palate and quite smooth to begin with and only a bit spicy and peppery (and gingery) towards the end
Finish: Long, warm, oaky, slightly nutty with sweet berries.
After trying Welsh, English, Romanian and Japanese Whisky, I'm happy I've sampled Indian Whisky. For me, seeing how much variety in whisky production exists outside Scotland and Ireland is simply wonderful.
Pros and Cons
Adding a drop of cold water or an ice cube to the glass helps accentuate some of the flavours, especially mango, pineapple, almonds and vanilla.
It is a delightful dram on its own and has proven to be fantastic in several cocktails, including highball and old-fashioned.

In Conclusion
Priced at around £45 on most UK websites, it's a highly interesting dram to try, especially if you're curious about world whiskies.
It has much to offer (for some, perhaps a bit too much in terms of flavours), making me look forward to trying more of Picadilly Distillery's whisky.
