Time for another dram!
An English Single Malt Whisky finished in Virgin American Oak barrels

A bit about
Produced by White Peak Distillery in Derbyshire, the Wire Works Virgin Oak was matured initially in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in Virgin American Oak barrels with a range of toast and char levels.
It has 50.5% ABV, it is non-chill-filtered and has a beautiful gold colour.

Time to try it
Nose: Sweet, with toffee, vanilla custard, white chocolate and coconut flakes
Palate: Quite harsh and peppery with oak, lemon peel and a hint of peat
Finish: Long, dry, citrusy, with oak and a bit of peat

Pros and Cons
It's certainly an interesting dram to try, unfortunately, I can't say I'm its biggest fan.
I would have loved to find some of the sweeter notes from the nose to also be present on the palate, or for the peat to be a bit more noticeable.
It paired wonderfully with a medium-bodied cigar with heavy notes of cocoa, espresso and dried fruit.
I much preferred this one with a few drops of ice-cold water rather than neat.

In Conclusion
Quite similar to Wire Works' Bourbon Barrel, but with less citrus notes, the Virgin Oak was an interesting dram to try. I'm happy I've tried it, but I don't think I would commit to a full bottle.
