Lagos is a stunning coastal city situated in the south of Portugal, in the Algarve Region.
This beautiful city is known for its amazing weather, gorgeous beaches, rich history and fantastic restaurants, making it a highly sought-after holiday destination that attracts tourists from all over the world.
Lagos Weather
If you enjoy warm and sunny weather, the best time to visit the Algarve would be between June and August. However, if you prefer milder temperatures, then May, September, and early October would be an ideal time to visit as the temperature is still around 20 degrees Celsius.
I visited the region in early September when the weather was pleasant and bright, without being excessively hot.
Going to Lagos, Portugal
If travelling there by plane, the closest airport to Lagos is Faro Airport (90 Km away).
From Faro Airport you can either rent a car, take a bus or book a private transfer.
I have no experience with renting cars, so unfortunately I cannot advise on this matter, but I can say that the bus ticket is around £20 while a private transfer is around £80.
The bus journey is slightly longer, while private transfers between Lagos and Faro Airport (with companies such as Algarserra) take around 1 hour and 20 minutes.
There is a train option as well, but for that, you first need to take a taxi or bus from Faro Airport to Faro City.
Top Attractions in Lagos
Ponta da Piedade Trail
Simply follow the wooden walkway alongside the coast, from the city centre to Ponta da Piedade and enjoy the picturesque scenery. The full trail takes around 30-40 minutes.
Boat Cruise to Ponta Da Piedade
If you have severe motion sickness/sea sickness you might want to give this one a miss, but if your health allows, please give this one a try, it's great!
I booked through GetYourGuide and the ticket was around £15-20. Had the meeting point at Lagos Train Station/Marina de Lagos - which is also where you return. The whole thing lasted for 1 hour and 15 minutes and it was honestly amazing.
Marina de Lagos
If you decide to go for a boat cruise, then I recommend pairing that with a quick look around the Marina. There are a lot of bars, restaurants and gift shops close by, all highly tempting.
Praia Dona Ana/ Praia Do Camilo
Unfortunately, I don't have pictures that do any sort of justice to the amazing beaches in Lagos, because I was too preoccupied with enjoying the sun the sand and being in the water.
Sunset photo spot
I saved the best for last. The Sunset Spot was probably my favourite. It's a 25-minute walk from Praia Dona Ana, and for a good portion of it, you can walk on the wooden boardwalk. Reserve a good hour or two to fully enjoy the sunset as you stroll along the trail.
Lagos has a lot to offer for a day trip, but I would suggest at least 2-3 days if you want to give yourself enough time to enjoy all the beautiful views and all the delicious food.
Have you ever been to Lagos? If so, what was your experience like?
I hope life is treating you well.
Take care.
