Time for another dram!
A beautifully rich smoked rye Danish Whisky.

A bit about
Founded in 2005, Stauning is Denmark's oldest Whisky Distillery. Using locally grown rye and barley (Jutland), traditional floor malting and double distillation in 24 small, but direct-fired pot stills, Stauning has won numerous awards for both its whisky and new make.
A limited release from Stauning Whisky (2500 bottles) aged in American Oak and Moscatel Sherry Casks (in total for around 4 years), the Smoked Rye Sherry Oak Danish Whisky has 53% ABV and a stunning colour.

Time to try it!
Nose: Very rich, with equal parts of peat and spicy rye, quite sweet, with milk chocolate and vanilla fudge
Palate: Delicate, velvety on the palate, slightly less sweet than on the nose, with the chocolate notes now combined with dried fruit, caramel and with a very pleasant smoke
Finish: Long, with dried fruit (mainly prunes and dark cherries), a bit of spice towards the end, and a delightful lingering smoke

Pros and Cons
Even if you're not the biggest fan of rye whisky in general, I'm pretty sure you're going to love this one. The smoke and sweetness are beautifully balanced with the spiciness of the rye.
It's quite rich and fruity with a multitude of layers to discover, dram after dram.
Served neat, it's an absolute delight, but a few drops of icy cold water won't do it any harm.
I've been a fan of Stauning Whisky for some time now, and so far, this is certainly my favourite.

As always, please drink responsibly.
