That Boutique-y Whisky Company Speyside 12-Year-Old: Whisky Review & Tasting Notes
Time for another dram!
Today we are diving into an independent bottling from one of the most recognizable, playful names in modern whisky: That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC). Known for their comic-book-style graphic labels and quirky limited releases, Boutique-y has spent years championing single casks and small batches from distilleries all across Scotland and the wider world.
While they built their cult reputation on limited-run 50cl bottles, they introduced an ongoing core range bottled at 45.8% ABV—including this Speyside 12-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
The sample in my glass came via a Drinks by the Dram bottle. It hails from an undisclosed Speyside distillery, carrying a rich, layered nose that sets up big expectations before taking a surprisingly delicate, floral turn on the palate.
Here is my honest breakdown, complete tasting notes, and final verdict on this super-sippable Speysider.

What is That Boutique-y Speyside 12 Year Old? (Distillery & Cask Details)
While the label famously keeps the exact distillery under wraps (simply designated as an undisclosed Speyside single malt), That Boutique-y Whisky Company crafts this small-batch release by marrying casks aged for a full dozen years.
Matured in Oloroso sherry wood, it aims to balance classic Speyside orchard freshness with the rich dried-fruit depth imparted by fortified wine casks.

That Boutique-y Speyside 12 Flavour Profile & Tasting Notes
Time to try it!
Poured into the glass, it shows a warm, bright copper-gold tone.
The Nose
Very layered, deep, and inviting right from the start. You get a solid hit of dark fruit sweetness—dense dried prunes, dark blackberries, and juicy sultanas that give the glass a rich, dessert-like arrival. Weaving gently behind the heavier dried fruits is an airy, light floral aspect that keeps the nose from feeling sticky or overly heavy. It is complex, sweet, and promises a big, full-bodied arrival.
The Palate
Here is where the dram surprises you: it is way lighter on the palate than the nose leads you to believe. Instead of heavy, chewy sherry syrup, the spirit takes a noticeably brighter and softer direction. A lot more of the delicate floral notes come rushing to the forefront across the tongue, while the heavier dried fruits like sultanas, prunes, and blackberries step into the background with some orange peel and walnuts. It goes down an absolute treat—gentle, incredibly pleasant, and remarkably soft across the palate with zero alcohol burn at 45.8% ABV.
The Finish
A short-to-medium finish that keeps things crisp and clean. It tapers off gently with soft vanilla cream, a faint touch of dry toasted oak, and a lingering hint of fresh apricot that leaves the mouth feeling clean and refreshed rather than coated in heavy tannin.

The Verdict: Neat All Day
Do not worry about adding water to this one.
Because the palate is already so light, delicate, and floral compared to the dense nose, adding water would risk washing out its subtle floral tones and soft stone fruit finish. At 45.8% ABV, the alcohol integration is already spot-on, making it effortless to enjoy straight from the glass.
Final Verdict: Is That Boutique-y Speyside 12 Worth It?
If you are looking for an approachable, crowd-pleasing single malt that doesn't overwhelm the senses, this Speyside 12-Year-Old is super, super sippable.
What makes it so engaging is that lovely contrast between the aroma and the taste: you get the rich, dark, fruit-laden nose of a classic sherried Speysider, paired with a palate that is surprisingly light, floral, and refreshing.
It makes for an effortless everyday dram—ideal for an unhurried evening pour or sharing with friends who want great flavour without aggressive proof or heavy peat.
