Whisky Paloma - Cocktail Recipe

A super refreshing twist on a classic tequila-based highball cocktail.

This recipe is for you if you need a cocktail that’s quick, easy, delicious and perfect for making in large batches for any party.

You'll need:

  • 50 ml Whisky ( I usually use Abasolo, a Mexican whisky made from ancestral corn)

  • 35 ml Grapefruit Juice

  • 15 ml Lime Juice

  • 15/20 ml simple syrup/agave syrup or honey

  • Grapefruit slices to garnish

  • Splash of soda water

How to:

  1. Add the whisky, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and agave syrup to your cocktail shaker

  2. Add ice, shake well, then either strain into a tall glass filled with ice (ideally) or pour the whole contents of your shaker straight into the glass (dirty pour).

  3. Top with soda and garnish with a few slices of grapefruit

If fresh ingredients are not available, you can always make this with grapefruit soda instead of the grapefruit juice, lime juice, agave syrup and soda.

For this version, just pour everything straight into the glass, over ice, and give it a good mix, rather than shaking up any ingredients.

In this instance, I would recommend using a lime wedge as a garnish and, perhaps, if you have the time, salt the rim of your glass.

Whether you use fresh ingredients or grapefruit soda, you can easily make this cocktail in large batches to suit any party.

If you're opting for fresh ingredients, you can prepare the base of the cocktail in advance. You can combine the whisky, grapefruit juice, lime juice and agave nectar (all quantities multiplied by how many drinks you desire to make) in a large pitcher and leave it to chill in the fridge before your guests arrive. Then, simply fill your highball glasses with ice, pour around 120ml of the mixture, top with soda and garnish with a slice of grapefruit.
