Vampire's Heart Vodka Review: Distileriile Bran & Vampire Sour Recipe

Vampire's Heart Vodka Review: Romanian Craft, An Anatomical Bottle & The Vampire Sour
Time for something a little different in the glass!
When most people think of spirits coming out of Romania, traditional fruit brandies like țuică or pălincă usually dominate the conversation. However, the country's craft distilling scene has been expanding rapidly, bringing creative, premium expressions onto the international stage.
One eye-catching release is Vampire's Heart Vodka, produced in Transylvania by Distileriile Bran—a family-run distillery known for traditional distilling methods.
Right away, the packaging demands attention. The ultra-premium vodka is bottled in heavy glass sculpted directly in the shape of an anatomical human heart, complete with detailed raised veins, sculpted aorta handles, and an icy frosted gradient finish.
Whether you are looking for an eye-catching centrepiece for Halloween or simply curious about Romanian craft spirits, here is my honest review of how it drinks, how to reuse the bottle, and my custom Vampire Sour cocktail recipe.

The Tasting Experience: Clean, Smooth & No Weird Burn
Good vodka doesn't need pages of complicated descriptors; its entire job is to be exceptionally clean, neutral, and smooth on the palate.
Nose: Very gentle and crisp. No pungent medicinal aromas or aggressive ethanol sting that you often get with budget spirits.
Palate: Clean, neutral, and soft. It has a pleasant, silky texture across the tongue with zero off-putting aftertaste or harsh chemical bite.
Finish: Crisp, brief, and gentle. Leaves a clean warmth in the chest without requiring an immediate chaser.
It drinks like a genuine premium vodka should: smooth enough to sip neat over ice, yet neutral and balanced enough to let fruit liqueurs and fresh citrus shine in craft cocktails.

Signature Cocktail: The Vampire Sour
Because this bottle leans into gothic Transylvanian lore, pairing it with Romania's favourite fruit liqueur—sour cherry (vișinată)—was a natural choice.
Distileriile Bran makes fantastic natural fruit liqueurs, and combining their sour cherry with fresh lemon creates a rich, tart, balanced cocktail with a deep crimson appearance.
Ingredients
45 ml Vampire's Heart Vodka
25 ml Bran Sour Cherry Liqueur (Vișinată)
20 ml Fresh Lemon Juice
10 ml Simple Sugar Syrup (1:1 ratio)
Garnish: Macerated sour cherry (dropped in the base) or a wide lemon twist

Method
Add the vodka, sour cherry liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker packed with plenty of ice.
Shake hard for 12 to 15 seconds until the tin is completely frosted.
Drop a macerated cherry into the bottom of a chilled coupe or sour glass.
Double-strain the cocktail into the glass over the cherry.
Express fresh lemon oils over the top or trim a neat citrus peel to finish.
The result is sharp, refreshing, and deeply fruity, with the vodka providing a clean backbone that cuts through the rich cherry sweetness.

Beyond the Drink: Halloween Styling & Upcycling
Novelty bottles often end up in the recycling bin, but this is one you definitely keep around the house.
The textured veins, anatomical silhouette, and frosted glass make it an instant display piece:
Halloween Centrepiece: It looks incredible sitting on a bar cart alongside dark gothic glassware, skull accents, and deep red cocktail ingredients.
Taper Candle Holder: Clean out the bottle once finished and slot a black, dark red, or ivory drip candle straight into the neck. As the wax melts down the raised veins, it makes a moody mantlepiece lantern.
Custom Decanter or Flower Vase: Fill it with cold water and single-stem deep red roses or dried botanicals for a striking shelf piece.

Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?
Vampire's Heart Vodka hits the mark on both substance and style. The anatomical heart bottle makes it a fun purchase for Halloween, gothic bar styling, or as a unique gift. Inside, the vodka itself is genuinely well-crafted by Distileriile Bran—clean, smooth, pleasant, and completely free of harsh, aggressive aftertastes.
