A flavorful Single Malt Welsh Whisky from Penderyn Distillery.

A bit about
After a trip to Penderyn Llandudno Lloyd Street Distillery, I wanted to try as many of their whiskies as possible. I started with the Dragon Range, trying the Penderyn Celt, Penderyn Legend and Penderyn Myth.
Penderyn Madeira Finish has won Gold in 2018 (European Single Malt) at the World Whisky Masters - The Spirits Business Competition and Bronze in 2015 (Best World Whisky) at the International Whisky Competition.
Aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in ex-Madeira wine casks, Penderyn Madeira has 46% ABV, is non-chill-filtered and has a natural light golden colour.

Time to try it
Nose: Fragrant, heavier than I expected, oaky, with sultanas, dried plums and toffee
Taste: Oily and smooth on the palate, with a slight crisp/dry edge,
Finish: Medium with raisins, charred pineapple and fudge

Pros and Cons
Flavourful yet somehow still light, for the 46% ABV it is quite gentle on the palate to begin with and has a slightly dry, crisp finish.
I prefer this one neat or with the addition of a few drops of cold water. I have not tried it yet in any cocktails, but I can see it work well in an old-fashioned.
For me, the Penderyn Madeira is an enjoyable whisky, especially for the colder months and if paired with a platter of aged cheese.

In Conclusion
Priced at around £40 on most UK websites, the Penderyn Madeira Cask is an interesting dram to try, especially if you're curious about Welsh Whiskies.
