Oban 12-Year-Old Special Release Whisky
Time for another dram!
Oban 12-Year Old 2021 Special Release is a single-malt Scotch Whisky crafted by Oban Distillery. This Special Edition has 56.2% ABV, a delightful pale gold colour and a lot of flavours to offer.
A bit about
This small Highland distillery has been around since 1794, making it one of the oldest in Scotland. The one I'm trying and you can see in the pictures above and below is a 2021 release, but I have previously seen a 2008 release as well.
I enjoyed The Distillers Edition so I had high hopes for The Special Release.
Time to try it!
When it comes to the alcohol content, it's understandable why the initial sip may feel a bit intense compared to the Distillers Edition. Its appearance boasts a lovely pale gold hue and medium body, with prevalent notes of vanilla and ground pepper in the aroma. The initial sip is quite sharp but mellows immediately after. The flavour profile is both sweet and spicy, with a subtle hint of smokiness and a refreshing citrus essence. The finish is moderately peppery but ultimately enjoyable.

In conclusion
Priced around £100 on UK websites, it is a beautiful whisky to enjoy. Adding a drop of water or an ice cube opens up some of the flavours, bringing out more delightful orange and lemon peel notes and it also makes it slightly smoother.
With a beautiful label and box design, I think the Oban 12-Year-Old Special Release Whisky would make for a great gift for any whisky enthusiast.
