Hanjan Peach: Drink Review & Tasting Notes

Time for another drink!

Today we are stepping away from high-proof spirits and heavy casks to look at something far lighter, fruit-forward, and dangerously easy to drink: Hanjan Peach (한잔 복숭아).

What is Hanjan Peach? (The Apple Wine & Soju Blend)

At first glance, the classic 360ml green bottle looks just like a standard flavoured Korean soju like Jinro Chamisul or Chum Churum. The front label even carries the phrase "와인의 분위기, 소주의 친근함"—"The mood of wine, the familiarity of soju."

Looking at the back label, the production reveals what sets this apart from typical neutral-grain flavoured spirits: it is actually produced by Korea Applelies (한국애플리즈) in Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, a region famous across South Korea for orchard fruit.

Instead of being pure diluted ethanol with syrup, the base incorporates 25% domestic Korean apple wine blended with purified water, spirit, and natural peach flavouring. The word Hanjan (한잔) simply translates to "one glass" or "a drink"—the universal Korean invitation to share a pour.

  • Producer: Korea Applelies, Uiseong, South Korea

  • Category: Fruit Wine / Flavoured Soju Hybrid (과실주)

  • Base: Domestic Apple Wine (25%) & Neutral Spirit

  • Flavour: Peach (복숭아향)

  • Volume: 360ml

  • ABV: 12%

Hanjan Peach Flavour Profile & Tasting Notes

Time to try it!

Served chilled straight from the fridge into a small glass, it pours crystal clear with no visible carbonation.

The Nose

Fresh, bright, and delicately peachy right from the start. Unlike some flavoured spirits that smell cloyingly artificial like candy drops, the aroma here is soft, clean, and dominated by natural ripe white peach skin with a subtle orchard-crisp undertone from that apple wine base.

The Palate

Light, smooth, and very gentle on entry. At 12% ABV, there is zero alcohol burn. The peach flavour leads the way—sweet and refreshing, but balanced out by the natural fruit acidity of the fermented apple base, keeping it from feeling sticky or syrup-heavy on the tongue.

The Finish

A short to medium finish that leaves a clean, pleasant lingering peach sweetness and a soft, mouthwatering freshness.

Price, Value & Final Verdict: Is Hanjan Peach Worth It?

If you are a fan of low-ABV Asian drinks or want an alternative to standard commercial flavoured soju, Hanjan Peach is a noticeable upgrade. Blending genuine apple wine into the base gives it a rounder, softer fruit profile that tastes far less chemical than mass-market competitors.

  • The Pros: Incredibly sessionable at 12% ABV, soft natural peach character, no harsh ethanol bite, and very affordable.

  • The Cons: A relatively short finish, and definitely on the sweeter side if you only drink dry wines or neat spirits.

It is tailor-made for casual social evenings, drinking ice-cold alongside spicy Korean street food, fried chicken (chimaek-style), or barbecue where the sweetness and chilled fruit cut through grease and chilli heat.

Availability & UK Distribution Callout

I was handed this bottle directly by the brand representative at BCB London, where they were showcasing the range to prospective European partners. As of right now, Hanjan is not yet available for retail purchase in the UK.

Calling UK Distributors & Importers:

As far as I'm aware, the brand is actively looking for a UK distributor to bring Hanjan onto shelves and back bars across the country. If you are an importer, wholesaler, or distributor interested in representing them in the UK, feel free to drop me an email/ reach out via my contact page, and I will gladly connect you directly with the brand representative.

For everyone else: keep your eyes peeled across speciality Asian supermarkets and bottle shops as distribution develops!
