Golden Nectar Premium Iced Tea (Elderflower) Review: Balanced Sweetness & Refreshing Craft Sips

While my drinks cabinet usually revolves around single malt Scotch and craft world spirits, I am always on the hunt for top-tier soft drinks, low-intervention sodas, and sophisticated non-alcoholic alternatives.

A couple of weeks ago, while wandering the floor at the Trade Drinks Expo and Hospitality Expo in London, I was scouting out unique mixers and non-alcoholic options when I came across a stand that caught my eye: Golden Nectar Drinks.

Billed as an authentic New York-style iced tea crafted in the UK, Golden Nectar brews their recipes in small batches using natural ingredients.

I picked up their Elderflower expression to try at home. Poured straight over a glass packed with ice, it proved to be an instant hit.

Here is my honest breakdown, the full nutritional details, and my verdict on whether this craft iced tea is worth stocking in your fridge.

What is Golden Nectar Iced Tea? (Brand & Background)

As the can proudly notes: "In the vibrant city of Birmingham, England, enthusiasts of traditional New York style iced tea created Golden Nectar. This exquisite brew, made in small batches with natural ingredients, captures the essence of quality and taste. Golden Nectar offers a pure, refreshing experience, embodying the spirit of New York with every sip."

Unlike mass-market commercial iced teas that rely heavily on artificial sweeteners, artificial syrups, or powdery tea concentrates, Golden Nectar keeps their ingredient deck remarkably clean:

  • Ingredients: Water, sugar, lemon, black tea, elderflower, citric acid, natural flavourings, and potassium metabisulphite.

  • No Artificial Sweeteners: There is zero sucralose, aspartame, or stevia aftertaste here, just natural fruit sugars and real brewed ingredients.

  • Gentle Lift: Contains 8 mg of natural caffeine per 100 ml derived from real brewed black tea, providing a gentle, crisp refreshment without the jittery spike of an energy drink.

  • Flavour Range: Alongside this Elderflower edition, Golden Nectar also produces a Lime & Mint version as well as an Original Gold expression - all being 330 ml cans.

Golden Nectar Elderflower Tasting Notes & Refreshment Breakdown

Time to try it!

Before opening, the bottle reminds you to shake well before drinking (natural settling occurs because they use real brewed tea and elderflowers), and it states clearly: best served chilled. I can definitely vouch for that instruction (had the original version chilled at the Trade Drinks Expo) and poured the Elderflower one straight over ice.

The Nose

Clean, airy, and delicately floral. You get the crisp, tannic freshness of real brewed black tea leaf right away, harmoniously intertwined with a gentle whisper of elderflower blossom and a squeeze of fresh lemon zest. It smells completely natural—no cloying artificial perfumed notes or harsh synthetic syrups.

The Palate

The sip delivers exactly what good iced tea should: pure, crisp refreshment.

What stands out immediately is the sweetness level. It is not overly sweet, which is something I appreciate about it tremendously. Commercial canned iced teas in the UK and US often drown you in sugar or leave a synthetic film on your tongue from artificial sweeteners. Here, the sweetness is wonderfully restrained and balanced.

The elderflower flavour is delicate, elegant, and soft. It floats alongside the earthy black tea and crisp lemon without ever dominating. It feels light, wholesome, and incredibly easy to drink.

The Finish

Crisp, clean, and refreshing. It leaves zero sticky sugar residue behind, trailing off with a gentle, dry black tea tannin and a lingering floral elderflower breeze that keeps the palate feeling cleansed.

(And yes, I'm used to reviewing whisky, so the tasting notes for anything else will resemble them 😁)

How to Serve & Pair: Cocktails or Pacing?

  • Best Served Chilled or Over Ice: Keeping it cold or pouring it over ice highlights the briskness of the black tea and brightens the lemon acidity.

  • Enjoy it as it is, no matter the weather : While you could certainly experiment using this as a botanical mixer with whatever spirit you might have in mind, it is honestly so good on its own that I prefer drinking it unadulterated.

  • Barbecue & Social Pacing: If you are hosting a summer barbecue or an all-day gathering and want to pace yourself between alcoholic drinks, having a bottle of Golden Nectar on hand is a brilliant way to stay hydrated and refreshed without feeling like you are stuck drinking water.

Final Verdict: Is Golden Nectar Elderflower Iced Tea Worth It?

Golden Nectar has done a fantastic job crafting a proper New York-style iced tea right in Birmingham.

Finding ready-to-drink iced teas that avoid both artificial sweetener aftertastes and aggressive sugar spikes is surprisingly difficult. This Elderflower expression strikes the exact balance you want: natural ingredients, crisp tea structure, delicate floral notes, and a genuinely refreshing, clean finish.

I discovered this in October and am thoroughly enjoying it right now, but I can see this performing phenomenally during warm spring and summer afternoons.

If you love iced tea but hate over-the-top sugar bombs, Golden Nectar is definitely one to track down and keep chilled in the fridge.
