Glen Grant 18 Rare Edition - Whisky Review

Time for another dram!

A Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glen Grant 18 Rare Edition - Whisky Review

A bit about

Launched in 2016, along with the 12 yo expression, the 18 Rare Edition has 43% ABV and a gold colour. I don't have too much info unfortunately, but I think this one is chill filtered, and there is a possibility that colouring has been added.

When it comes to awards, the Glen Grant 18 Rare Edition won Silver in 2017 at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in the Speyside Single Malt Scotch category.

Time to try it

Nose: A bit sharp to begin with, oily, fresh orchard fruit (apricots and peaches mainly), and damp wood (oak)

Palate: Floral, fruity, candy-sweet, slightly oily, all decently balanced

Finish: Drier than expected, but still pleasant, medium with hints of stewed apples and herbal undertones.

Pros and Cons

I've not had the chance to experiment with this one, but I have no reason to doubt it would be just as lovely in a cocktail as it is neat. It becomes more floral as you leave it in the glass for a few minutes.

In Conclusion

Overall, quite a pleasant dram to sip, light-medium bodied, with a few nice layers of fruitiness balanced with oak and floral tones. Is it worth the price? Not entirely sure on this one, I guess, as always, it depends on what you look for in a whisky - this one is not peated, not sherry-sweet, not heavy on the ABV, but it is a nice dram to sip on a summer day.

Priced at around £100 on most UK websites, if you want to give this whisky a try, you can usually find it by clicking/ tapping here.
