Time for another dram!

A Romanian Single Malt Whisky first matured in ex-Bourbon first-fill casks and finished in an ex-Sauternes cask.

A bit about

Part of the French Wine Cask Collection, the Sauternes Cask Finish has 46% ABV, is non-chill filtered and has a natural gold colour. Aged in ex-Bourbon first-fill casks and finished in an ex-Sauternes cask.

So far, I've not found it in the 700ml bottles, only in a tasting pack along with a few other varieties.

Time to try it!

Nose: Sweet, floral and delicately fruity

Palate: Pleasantly sweet on the palate with a slight sharpness, which mellows down with the second sip

Finish: Medium, with quite a bit of dryness

Pros and Cons

Nose-wise, it starts beautifully and loses some of its floral aspects the more you leave it in the glass, reminding me more of a dried-out empty wine glass, rather than the sweet notes it starts with.

As with the Tawny Port Cask, I do wonder if it would have benefited from spending a little more time in the finishing cask.

Overall, it's probably my least favourite Carpathian Single Malt Whisky, but still a decent dram nonetheless.

In Conclusion

I'm a bigger fan of the nose of this one rather than the palate, but don't get me wrong, it's still an interesting dram to sample.

As always, please drink responsibly.
