Baked Apple Roses with Puff Pastry

Super easy to make puff pastry and apple roses.

This recipe uses ready-rolled puff pastry and makes 8-9 apple roses.

Baked Apple Roses with Puff Pastry

You will need:

Baked Apple Roses with Puff Pastry

  • 1 roll of puff pastry

  • 2 red apples

  • 2 tsp lemon juice

  • 4-5 tsp apricot jam/preserve

optional, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp icing sugar

How to:

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C/gas 5 (fan-assisted)

  2. Leave the puff pastry to thaw at room temperature for about 20 minutes

  3. In a large, microwavable bowl, put the lemon juice and 1-2 cups of water

  4. Cut the apples in half and core them, then slice them as thinly as you can, and put the slices in the bowl as soon as possible

  5. Microwave the apple slices for 2-3 minutes, until they become tender and easy to roll. Drain them, then leave them to cool down completely

  6. Unroll the puff pastry sheet

  7. Mix the 2-3 tsp of apricot jam with 1 tsp of hot water, mix, then spread the jam on the puff pastry

  8. Cut the puff pastry sheet into 8 or 9 strips.

  9. Put 7 or 8 apple slices on each strip (skin-side up), making sure to overlap the slices

  10. Fold the lower half over the apples

  11. Roll the pastry (tightly) from one side to the other, making sure to press the end slightly (to keep the rose in place)

  12. Repeat the process for the remaining strips

  13. Put the roses in a very well-buttered muffin tin, or, ideally, in silicone muffin cases

  14. Bake for 35-40 minutes at 190C/gas 5

  15. Remove the pastries from the oven, then leave them to cool down slightly

  16. Mix the remaining apricot jam with a drop of hot water, then spread this mixture (with a brush) over the pastry. (Optional - sprinkle the mixture of ground cinnamon and icing sugar on top, before serving)

  17. Enjoy!

Baked Apple Roses with Puff Pastry

  • These beautiful apple roses last, in an airtight container, for up to 3 days

  • If the apples break while you roll the pastry, they are either cut too thick or need microwaving for a few seconds longer.

  • If you don't have a microwave available, you can put the apple slices with 1/2 cup of water and the lemon juice in a pan on the stove, and cook them for 5-6 minutes on low heat.
