Time for another dram!
A Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in Tawny Port Casks

A bit about
The Tamnavulin Port Cask Edition is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in American white oak barrels and Tawny port casks. With a deep mahogany colour
(achieved with colouring), it has 40% ABV, and it is chill-filtered. This one is a no-age-statement whisky.
The Port Cask is part of the Cask Edition range, along with the White Wine Cask, Sherry Cask, Double Cask, French and American Cabernet Sauvignon Casks, German Pinot Noir and Spanish Grenache Cask.

Time to try it!
Nose: Rich, with ripe red berries, orange slice, milk chocolate and some floral hints
Palate: Lightly sweet and nutty with dried fruit (plums and pears) and some apple compote
Finish: On the short side with some lingering oak, tannins and nutty notes.

Pros and Cons
Priced at around £36 on most UK websites (occasionally on sale for around £24), I think it's a nice budget whisky to have around the house, whether you prefer to sip it neat, have it over ice on a hot summer day or in a cocktail at a barbecue.
In Conclusion
If you're just starting your whisky journey, this might be a good one to try and figure out what to kind of expect from a port cask. It doesn't have a full maturation in Tawny Port, so not all characteristic notes come through, but it certainly is a good starting point. The low ABV might also be a bit gentler on your palate if you haven't tried many whiskies before, and a cask strength whisky sounds a bit scary.
If you want to give this one a try, you can find it in larger supermarkets in the UK.
