Porto Cruz Tawny Port - Review

Time for another drink!

A delicious Tawny Port from one of the world's most renowned Port wine brands - Porto Cruz

A bit about

Now owned by the French group La Martiniquaise, Porto Cruz have been in business since 1887, making a selection of ports including ruby and white port. Selling around 8 million liters globally every year, Porto Cruz seems to be holding the title of world's best selling Port Wine brand.

The Tawny Port is made from a selection of red grape varieties - Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cao and aged in oak tuns for a minimum of three years. It has 19% ABV and a vibrant red colour.

It won gold for best Tawny at the World Best Awards in 2018 and Gold in 2018 at the Monde Selection in Brussels.

Time to try it!

Ripe berries and some dried fruit on both nose and palate - mainly blackberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and strawberries.

It feels lovely on the palate and has a long, fruity finish.

It has a beautiful sweetness which makes you want to have at least another glass instead of dessert, or perhaps two.

It's great as an aperitif or digestif, served at room temperature, between 8-12 degrees, or in a cocktail, especially if mixed with tonic water.

My tiny bottle was part of a tasting pack along with four others (reviews coming soon). Found this one in Faro Airport, but you can find both minis (5cl) and the large bottle version for around £15 on some UK websites.
