How to:

  1. Wash and peel the apples and keep the peels.

  2. Put the lemon juice, 2 tbsp sugar and the apples in a pan

  3. Put the apples in the pan and add water until the apples are fully covered

  4. Bring the pan to a boil, then simmer on medium heat for 30 minutes, until the apples are soft (a fork easily runs through them)

  5. While the apples are on the stove, put the apple peels, remaining sugar and cinnamon in a blender, along with 1/2 cup of water and blend until you have a smooth puree

  6. Put the puree in a pan and simmer, stirring every few minutes, until you obtain a smooth sauce

  7. Once the apples are soft, remove them from the pan, place them on a plate and drizzle the cinnamon apple sauce on top

  8. Sprinkle the toasted almonds and walnuts on top

  9. Enjoy!

  • Kept in an air-tight container, these delicious poached apples last in the fridge up to 3 days, but I would suggest setting aside the toasted almonds and chopped walnuts and sprinkling them on top once you've warmed up the sauce-covered apples either in the oven or microwave.

  • You can omit the almonds and walnuts if need be

You can make this recipe with pears instead of or alongside the apples, but for the pears, I recommend drizzling honey instead of the sauce and using only toasted almonds.
