An Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

A bit about
Lagavulin 8 was launched in 2016 as a special edition for the distillery's 200th anniversary, and it was added to the permanent range the following year. It has 48% ABV and a light golden colour.
So far, it has won double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2018.

Time to try it!
Nose: Sweet, delicate peat with a hint of citrus/lemon, and some sea salt/maritime aromas
Palate: More peat and delicate sweetness with a bit of dark chocolate and spice towards the end
Finish: Long with more smoke, oak and spice (as expected)

Pros and Cons
Considering I'm not usually a big fan of peated whisky, this one is more than ok for me, especially if you add a bit of water to it, or a big ice cube, and pair it with dark chocolate (orange flavoured, ideally) or whisky cookies which remove some of the smoke.
I wouldn't recommend this one to anyone who hasn't yet tried any type of peated whisky whatsoever, as it can be a bit overwhelming.

In Conclusion
Priced around £60, I think it's a good whisky to sample, especially if you like your dram to be peated.
If you want to give this whisky a go, you can find it here.
If you have tried this one and think you would prefer something with just a hint of peat, then perhaps try the Penderyn Peated, or, if you would prefer a slightly more complex version of this one, then perhaps give the Lagavulin 16 a try.

As always, please drink responsibly.
