If you are a spirits enthusiast heading to Paris—especially if you're in town for Whisky Live Paris in September—there is one retail spot that belongs at the top of your list: La Maison du Whisky (LMDW) on Rue d'Anjou.
Founded in 1956, La Maison du Whisky isn't just a bottle shop; they are the powerhouse importer and distributor responsible for bringing modern whisky culture (and Whisky Live itself) to France.
I stopped by their historic 8th-arrondissement boutique just before heading over to Whisky Live Paris last year. It was a relatively quick visit, but walking through their doors is an absolute eye-opener. Whether you are hunting for single-cask Scotch, rare Japanese bottlings, or niche world spirits, you can find pretty much anything your heart desires here.

Inside the Shop: Collector Cabinets & Vaulted Cellars

The Ground Floor & Collector Displays
Stepping inside off Rue d'Anjou, the space is clean, modern, and lined floor-to-ceiling with illuminated display cabinets. If you collect rare single malts, you can easily lose track of time. They have dedicated glass cases housing vintage releases, silent-distillery bottles, and legendary independent bottlings that you usually only see in auction catalogues or behind museum glass.
The Stone-Vaulted Cellar
Head downstairs into the stone cellar, and the atmosphere shifts into something straight out of a traditional dunnage warehouse. Framed beneath an arched masonry roof and flanked by oak casks are recessed wooden shelving grids packed with regional malts—including an entire wall dedicated to Kilchoman and heavily peated Islay single casks.
Tastings & Staff
One of the best things about La Maison du Whisky is that it never feels snobbish or unapproachable.
The staff behind the counter are exceptionally knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about what they sell. During my visit, the staff on shift spoke fluent English, making it completely effortless to chat through cask finishes, regional flavour profiles, and specific independent bottlings.
They also have bottles open for sampling at the counter, so you can often taste a pour before committing to a rare bottle or an exclusive shop single cask.

Nearest Metro Stations: Madeleine (Lines 8, 12, and 14) or Havre – Caumartin (Lines 3 and 9). Both stations are an easy 4-to-5-minute walk from the entrance.
Opening Hours: Monday 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Tuesday to Friday 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM (Closed on Sundays).
Visit Timing: You can easily do a quick visit in 20 to 30 minutes, but if you want to chat with the staff, sample a dram, and browse the collector shelves downstairs, budget around 45 minutes.
Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?
If you appreciate fine spirits, La Maison du Whisky on Rue d'Anjou is well worth your time. It pairs naturally with a trip to Whisky Live Paris, giving you a chance to see rare releases up close and pick up a bottle that you simply won't find on regular UK or airport duty-free shelves.
