Arran 10 - Whisky Review

Arran 10

Time for another dram!

Arran 10

A rich and flavourful Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Isle of Arran.

A bit about!

Arran whisky is made in the Lochranza Distillery, in the northern part of the Isle of Arran, just off the west coast of Scotland. Compared to other Scottish distilleries, Lochranza is quite new since it's only been around since 1995.

The Arran 10 was launched in 2006 and since then it has won gold at quite a few World Spirits/Whisky Awards (2012, 2014, 2018 and 2019).

It is Non-Chill Filtered, has a natural colour, and it has 46% ABV.

Time to try it!

A lot of citrus on the nose, especially lemon and lime zest, with some herbal notes.

Taste-wise I found it to be on the sweet side with vanilla and a hint of spice especially towards the end.

The finish is medium, and sweet to begin with, with more lime zest, spicy notes and quite a bitter finish.

Pros and Cons

Although it has 46% ABV it feels more like 40%.

It's great neat, with a splash of water or a couple of ice cubes and I'm sure it goes well in an old-fashioned even though I haven't tried it yet in any type of cocktail.

The only downside I can think of is that, when enjoyed neat, the finish might be a bit too bitter for some.

In conclusion

Priced at around £40-45 on most UK websites, it's a flavorful dram to enjoy, whether neat or with the addition of a few ice cubes.

I think it makes for a great gift, either for Christmas, birthday or any other occasion.
