Time for another Dram!
A Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky made for the National Trust for Scotland
A bit about
As we were making our way to Oban, we stopped briefly in Glencoe to see The Three Sisters (Bidean Nam Bian) a stunning group of mountains. It was pouring down but, while we were there, we paid a quick visit to the Glencoe Visitor Centre, where I found this cute little bottle bearing the same name as the mountains.
I don't have much information about it unfortunately, all I know is that it was sourced for the National Trust for Scotland (the Charity running the visitor centre) and that it has 40% ABV.
Nose: As I first opened the bottle - very slightly floral, verging on sweet, with a hint of vanilla. After a while, it smells less floral and more oak-heavy.
Taste: Quite sharp on the palate to begin with, after which it becomes slightly sweet and oaky
Finish: Medium with a slight bitterness towards the end
Not surprisingly, it's only available to purchase at National Trust for Scotland Shops, either in some of their stores or online.
It opens up with a few drops of water and it's not too bad in cocktails either but it's a bit too sharp for me to recommend it for sipping.
Priced at £60 for a 70cl bottle (my tiny 20cl bottle was £25) it might seem to have a higher price than expected, but considering that 100% of profits go towards the National Trust of Scotland's conservation work, I think it can be justified.
On a different note, it's one of the best types of souvenirs I can imagine generally, so at least for that I think it's worth a try.
